Volleyball Recap: Marquette Comes Up Short in High-Profile Matchup with Lafayette

Marquette faced Lafayette in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Mustangs came up short against the Lancers, falling 3-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Mustangs have suffered since April 15th.

Marquette was was forced to take the loss, but they sure made Lafayette work for it, especially in the second set. The match finished with set scores of 25-18, 29-27, 25-19.

Marquette's offense was headlined by Alex Danyluck and Noah Landewe, who picked up nine kills apiece. Danyluck really made an impact as he also led the team in assists with 15. He was also solid from the service line: he led the team with nine aces.

Among those leading the charge was Alex Behl, who had 15 digs and three assists.

Marquette is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 19-9. As for Lafayette, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 12-5.

Marquette has already played their next match, a 3-0 victory against Webster Groves on the 30th. As for Lafayette, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 3-1 win against Parkway South on the 1st.
