Softball Recap: Purnell Swett Wins Going Away Against Seventy-First

Purnell Swett won the last time they faced Seventy-First and things went their way on Wednesday too. Purnell Swett put the hurt on Seventy-First with a sharp 22-1 victory. Considering the Rams have won four matchups by more than nine runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Braci Woods made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit (and not a single walk). The dominant performance also gave her a new career-low in walks (zero). She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base.

In other batting news, Kara Hunt was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with six RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lanna Haggans, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

Purnell Swett was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .708. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Seventy-First only posted a batting average of .100.

The win made it two in a row for Purnell Swett and bumps their season record up to 5-6. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.5 runs over those games. As for Seventy-First, their defeat was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-6.

Purnell Swett has already played their next contest, a 10-0 loss against Gray's Creek on the 28th. As for Seventy-First, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 20-0 defeat against South View on the 28th.
