Baseball Recap: North Iredell Wins Going Away Against North Surry

North Iredell had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the seven-run drubbing they dealt North Surry on Wednesday. The Raiders blew past the Greyhounds 13-6. Considering the Raiders have won ten games by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Jay Brookshire made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Will Oehler, who fired off two home runs, three RBI, and one double while going 4-for-5. Those two home runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Thomas Shumaker, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

North Iredell kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive matchups.

North Iredell's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-3. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games. As for North Surry, with the defeat, they broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 13-8.

Looking ahead, North Iredell will venture away from home to face off against Foard at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. North Surry does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
