Baseball Recap: Enloe Comes Up Short

Enloe was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They fell 7-2 to the Athens Drive Jaguars. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Jaguars this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 17-3 last Tuesday.

Malhar Shelke was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out six batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off seven hits. Those hits were his first of the season.

At the plate, Enloe saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Owen Steene, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Enloe's defeat dropped their record down to 4-9. As for Athens Drive, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Enloe will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Harnett Central at 7:00 p.m. on April 7. As for Athens Drive, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Athens Drive Jaguars face off against Millbrook Wildcats at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday. Their pitchers better be ready for this one: Millbrook has averaged an impressive 7.8 runs per game this season.
