Softball Game Preview: Morenci Wildcats vs. Fort Thomas Apaches

The Morenci Wildcats will face off against the Fort Thomas Apaches at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Morenci has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the match with three straight losses, while Fort Thomas will come in with four straight victories.

On Tuesday, Morenci came up short against Bisbee and fell 17-14.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Fort Thomas). They came out on top against Valley Union by a score of 26-22 on Monday.

Fort Thomas got a massive performance out of Kaylee Benally, who scored four runs and stole five bases while going 3-for-5. That's the most runs Benally has posted since back in April of 2024. Raeleigh Hawkins was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing six bases while getting on base in four of her six plate appearances.

Fort Thomas was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .421. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .421 or higher in four consecutive contests.

Morenci now has a losing record of 8-9. As for Fort Thomas, the win got them back to even at 5-5.
