Volleyball Recap: Hickory Comes Up Short in High-Profile Contest with Kings Mountain

Hickory faced Kings Mountain in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Red Tornadoes fell 2-0 to the Mountaineers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Mountaineers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 2-1 on Friday.

Hickory was held off the scoreboard, but that almost wasn't the case: they kept the first set very close. The final score came out to 25-23, 25-19.

Emmi Gambill paced Hickory's offense, picking up ten kills. Gambill got some help from Ryan Hines and her 13 assists. Olivia Alala controlled things from the service line, finishing with two aces.

Hickory moved to 23-4 with that defeat, which also ended their three-match winning streak. As for Kings Mountain, the victory was the 16th in a row for them, bringing their record up to 24-1.

Hickory wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 3-0 win against West Iredell on the 30th. As for Kings Mountain, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 3-0 victory against North Gaston on the 29th.
