Softball Recap: Desert Vista Wins Going Away Against Sunnyslope

Desert Vista can bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Monday. Everything went their way against the Sunnyslope Vikings as they made off with a 13-2 win. Considering the Thunder have won 13 matchups by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Zhalia Asi was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Desert Vista let Mckenzie Leitgen and Atiana Perez run wild. Leitgen went 2-for-3 with one home run and five RBI, while Perez went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. Those four RBI gave Perez a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jaymie Larney, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Desert Vista was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .483. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive games.

Desert Vista's record now sits at 16-5. As for Sunnyslope, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season.

Desert Vista will have a chance to go back-to-back against Sunnyslope: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday.
