Baseball Recap: Simeon's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Monday

Simeon and Lane Tech squared off in some playoff action on Monday, but Simeon had to settle for second. They took a 4-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Champions. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Wolverines couldn't push the score so high this time.

Christian Lott was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched six innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. He is becoming a predictor of Simeon's success: when he allows at most two earned runs the team is 7-1 (and 9-10-1 when he doesn't).

At the plate, Simeon saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Daniel Jones Jr, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base.

Simeon moved to 16-11-1 with that defeat, which also ended their five-game winning streak. As for Lane Tech, the victory was the 11th in a row for them, bringing their record up to 24-9.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Simeon will welcome Hyde Park at 4:30 p.m. on the 28th. The Wolverines are facing the Thunderbirds at the right time seeing as the Thunderbirds are stuck on an 11-game losing streak. As for Lane Tech, they will host Nazareth Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
