Softball Recap: Port Clinton Has No Trouble Against Fostoria

Port Clinton barely beat Fostoria the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Redskins blew past the Redmen 18-4 on Monday. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Redskins' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

Ashton Sanchez made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.

In other batting news, Bella Belden was incredible, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs and three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lyric Jackson, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.

Port Clinton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .800. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Port Clinton now has a winning record of 12-11. As for Fostoria, they are on a 12-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-17.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Port Clinton will be taking part in a tournament against Edison at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Chargers will roll in looking for their ninth straight victory, something the Redskins surely won't give up without a fight. As for Fostoria, they will take on Liberty-Benton in a tournament on Wednesday.
