Softball Recap: Ellis Takes a Loss

Ellis extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 12 on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 0-11 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 9-8 heartbreaker at the hands of the Ellinwood Eagles. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 16-6 on Tuesday.

Brooke Starns made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Kia Mader was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

As for Ellinwood, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 15 matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-10 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.1 runs over those games.

On Ellinwood's side, the team relied heavily on Kyndal Moore, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, one triple, and two RBI. That triple marked the first that Moore has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Jenna Borror, who went 2-for-4 with four stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Ellis does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Ellinwood, they will challenge Minneapolis at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Lions' pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so the Eagles' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
