Basketball Recap: Jasmine Mondragon's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Taos over Espanola Valley

Taos fought the good fight in their overtime game against Espanola Valley on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Espanola Valley Sundevils by a score of 47-44. The Tigers haven't had much luck with the Sundevils recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Taos lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Jasmine Mondragon, who almost dropped a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds. She is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last three games she's played. Ciera Castillo was another key player, putting up 11 points along with six steals and five boards.

Taos' defeat dropped their record down to 8-17. As for Espanola Valley, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 18-8 record this season.

Taos does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Espanola Valley, they are taking a road trip to challenge Pojoaque Valley at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Pojoaque Valley sitting on six straight wins and Espanola Valley on three.
