Basketball Game Preview: Rockcastle County Rockets vs. Southwestern Warriors

The Rockcastle County Rockets will venture away from home to challenge the Southwestern Warriors at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.

Rockcastle County is headed into the game out to prove that what happened against Pulaski County on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Rockcastle County was beaten by Pulaski County 79-45. While losing is never fun, the Rockets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kentucky basketball rankings (they are ranked 207th, while the Maroons are ranked 96th).

Meanwhile, Southwestern was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They were a single point away from ending the streak, but they lost a 70-69 heartbreaker at the hands of Cumberland County. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Friday (68), the Warriors still had to take the loss.

Southwestern's defeat dropped their record down to 8-10. As for Rockcastle County, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-15.

Rockcastle County beat Southwestern 70-59 when the teams last played back in February of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Rockcastle County since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
