Baseball Recap: Oakmont Continues Home Dominance on Wednesday

Oakmont barely beat Eureka the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Vikings blew past the Loggers 8-1 on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Vikings, who have now won six matches by seven runs or more so far this season.

Eureka's batters probably weren't too happy with CJ Smith, who pitched a no hitter and racked up eight Ks (he gave up four walks). Those eight strikeouts set a new season-high mark for Smith.

On the hitting side, Oakmont saw 11 different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Peyton Oliver, who scored a run while going 2-for-2. Those two hits gave Oliver a new career-high. Zayne Ball was another, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.

Oakmont was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .419. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Eureka only posted a batting average of .000.

Oakmont's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-3. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Eureka, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Oakmont will square off against Bear River at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Eureka, they will challenge Fortuna at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The contest will give the Loggers their first taste of in-conference action this season.
