The Central Jaguars will venture away from home to face off against the Pensacola Catholic Crusaders at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Central is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.6 runs per game this season.

Central is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 13 runs last Tuesday, they were much more limited against Tate on Thursday. They lost 8-1 to the Aggies. The Jaguars' defeat signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.

Quincy Wilson was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Pensacola Catholic had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.7 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Bulldogs with a sharp 13-1 win. Considering the Crusaders have won five matchups by more than nine runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Gabe Mercado spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Colton Guillot was excellent, scoring three runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Pensacola Catholic is undefeated when Guillot posts two or more runs, but 4-7 otherwise. Brody Kohr also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Central's loss dropped their record down to 12-2. As for Pensacola Catholic, they now have a winning record of 8-7.

Central couldn't quite get it done against Pensacola Catholic when the teams last played back in April of 2024 as they fell 3-0. Can Central avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
