Softball Recap: Genoa-Kingston Has No Trouble Against Lutheran

Genoa-Kingston won the last time they faced Lutheran and things went their way on Monday too. The Cogs were the clear victors by an 8-1 margin over the Crusaders. With that victory, the Cogs brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

Aubree Simon made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out eight over seven innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Kaylee Luepkes was incredible, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two runs. Olivia Vasak was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs and one triple.

Genoa-Kingston has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-7-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Lutheran, they dropped their record down to 0-6 with the loss, which was their 16th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Coming up, Genoa-Kingston will face off against Rock Falls at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cogs are facing the Rockets at the right time seeing as the Rockets are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Lutheran, they will take on Rockford East at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
