Softball Recap: Santa Cruz Valley Sets Scoring Season-High Against Gilbert Classical Academy

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Santa Cruz Valley). They never let the Gilbert Classical Academy Spartans get on the board and left with a 19-0 win on Monday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.

Saleisha Herrera was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.

In other batting news, Santa Cruz Valley let Mikayla Leos and Tatiyana Reyes run wild. Leos scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3, while Reyes scored three runs while going 4-for-4. That's the most runs Reyes has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Emilee Brown, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.

Santa Cruz Valley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .636. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Santa Cruz Valley's win bumped their record up to 8-3. As for Gilbert Classical Academy, they are on an eight-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Coincidentally, Santa Cruz Valley and Gilbert Classical Academy will both be playing ALA - Anthem South the next time they take the field. Gilbert Classical Academy will host ALA - Anthem South at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday, while Santa Cruz Valley will head out to face them at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday.
