Football Game Preview: Sunnyvale vs. Kemp Yellowjackets

Sunnyvale will square off against the Kemp Yellowjackets at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Kemp took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Sunnyvale, who comes in off a win.

Sunnyvale is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They enjoyed a cozy 48-30 win over Ferris on Friday. Sunnyvale hasn't had any issues with Ferris recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

Jaden Cross went supernova, rushing for 182 yards and four touchdowns on only 13 carries, while also picking up 32 receiving yards. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 134.5 rushing yards per game. Aydin Brown was another key player, gaining 114 total yards and two touchdowns.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Sunnyvale was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 348 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 160 rushing yards in five consecutive contests.

Sunnyvale didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Braiden Weed and Greyson Walker. Another thorn in Ferris' side was Austin Helton, who made ten total tackles and defended two passes.

Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for Kemp's offense. They took a blow against Canton on Friday, falling 63-0. While losing is never fun, the Yellowjackets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 1115th, while the Eagles are ranked 384th).

Sunnyvale's win bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Kemp, their loss was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-5.

Everything came up roses for Sunnyvale against Kemp in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 50-14 victory. Does Sunnyvale have another victory up their sleeve, or will Kemp turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
