Softball Game Preview: Centralia Orphans vs. Murphysboro Red Devils

The Centralia Orphans will head out on the road to take on the Murphysboro Red Devils at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Centralia's pitching crew has only allowed 2.5 runs per game this season, so Murphysboro's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Centralia is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Marion just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They took a 6-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wildcats.

Meanwhile, Murphysboro was able to grind out a solid victory over DuQuoin on Monday, taking the game 4-1. The Red Devils haven't had any issues with the Indians recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

The team relied heavily on Kylie Powell, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Centralia's defeat dropped their record down to 18-4. As for Murphysboro, their victory bumped their record up to 13-16.

Centralia skirted past Murphysboro 5-4 in their previous meeting back in May of 2025. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Orphans since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
