Basketball Game Preview: Southern Bulldogs vs. Chesapeake Cougars

Southern hasn't had much luck against Chesapeake recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Southern Bulldogs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Chesapeake Cougars at 5:00 p.m. Southern will be strutting in after a win while Chesapeake will be coming in after a defeat.

Last Tuesday, Southern strolled past Severn Run with points to spare, taking the game 46-32. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Bulldogs.

Southern found their leader in sophomore Huntyr Marks, who dropped a triple-double on 22 points, ten boards, and ten steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which Marks has scored at least a third of Southern's points. The team also got some help courtesy of La'Ren Watkins, who posted ten points.

Meanwhile, Chesapeake ended up a good deal behind Broadneck on Wednesday and lost 51-32. The loss continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Bruins: they've now lost three in a row.

Southern's victory bumped their record up to 5-7. As for Chesapeake, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-3.

Southern beat Chesapeake 48-37 in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. Will Southern repeat their success, or does Chesapeake have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
