Football Game Preview: McNeil Mavericks vs. Vandegrift Vipers + How To Watch

McNeil is 0-7 against Vandegrift since October of 2018 but things could change on Friday. The Mavericks will challenge the Vipers at 7:00 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

McNeil took a loss when they played away from home last Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They blew past Stony Point 56-21. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 35-7.

McNeil's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jadon Sultz, who threw for 238 yards and four touchdowns on only 17 passes, and also rushed for 43 yards. The dominant performance also gave Sultz a new career-high in passer rating (152.6). Zylen Hall was another key rusher, gaining 177 total yards and a touchdown.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: McNeil was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 243 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 150 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.

Meanwhile, Vandegrift had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They came out on top against the Rangers by a score of 21-10. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Vipers' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 20th, while the Rangers are ranked 119th).

A big part of Vandegrift's victory came down to the chemistry between Miles Teodecki and his top target Brock Chilton. Teodecki threw for 237 yards and a pair of TDs while Chilton picked up 128 receiving yards and one score.

Vandegrift's record now sits at 3-1. As for McNeil, they now have a winning record of 3-2.

McNeil took a serious blow against Vandegrift in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, falling 28-0. Thankfully for the Mavericks, Brendan Fournier (who rushed for 100 yards and a pair of touchdowns) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
