Basketball Recap: Grand Island Takes a Loss

Grand Island was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They fell 64-51 to the Lincoln High Links. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Islanders of the 54-43 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February.

When it comes to explaining why Grand Island lost, don't look at Babur Choul. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 boards. Those 11 boards gave Choul a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Victor Fisher Jr, who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine boards.

Brady Nick was his usual excellent self, going 6 of 11 on his way to 22 points and seven rebounds for Lincoln High. Nick's afternoon made it five games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Jairik Gilmore, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds.

Grand Island's defeat dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Lincoln High, their win bumped their record up to 3-4.

Grand Island will square off against Lincoln Southeast at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. Lincoln Southeast will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Grand Island surely won't give up without a fight. As for Lincoln High, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Burke at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
