Softball Recap: Wednesday's Defeat Ends Montpelier's Winning Streak

Despite a phenomenal run in the regular season, Montpelier couldn't carry that success into this playoff game. They fell just short of the Ada Bulldogs by a score of 6-4 on Wednesday. The Locomotives' loss signaled the end of their 14-game winning streak.

Madelyn Hopper was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 22 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

Hopper wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kelsie Bumb, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one double and one RBI.

Montpelier's defeat dropped their record down to 18-6. As for Ada, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 23-4 record this season.

As of now, neither Montpelier nor Ada have any future games scheduled.
