Soccer Game Preview: Henderson Collegiate vs. Excelsior Classical Academy

The Henderson Collegiate Pride are taking a road trip to face off against the Excelsior Classical Academy Flying Lions at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Henderson Collegiate has given up an average of 3.9 goals per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Henderson Collegiate is coming into the match fresh off a high-scoring shootout with Oxford Prep that saw the pair combine for 11 shots on goal. The Pride lost 5-0 to the Griffins on Monday. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since October 23, 2023, but that streak is no more.

Meanwhile, Excelsior Classical Academy was able to grind out a solid victory over Vance Charter last Tuesday, taking the game 4-2. The final result isn't all that surprising considering Excelsior Classical Academy's considerable advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina soccer rankings (they are ranked 97th, while Vance Charter are ranked 376th).

Joel Doriocourt and Kevin Fernandez scored all four of Excelsior Classical Academy's goals, bringing their combined season tally to 26 goals.

Henderson Collegiate's defeat dropped their record down to 7-15. As for Excelsior Classical Academy, their win bumped their record up to 17-0.

Henderson Collegiate came up short against Excelsior Classical Academy in their previous matchup back in September, falling 4-2. Can the Pride avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
