Basketball Game Preview: Avon Panthers vs. Norfolk County Agricultural Rams

Avon is 0-7 against Norfolk County Agricultural since December of 2015 but things could change on Thursday. The Avon Panthers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Norfolk County Agricultural Rams at 4:00 p.m.

Avon is headed into Thursday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Monday. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 40-34 heartbreaker at the hands of South Shore Vo-Tech.

Avon's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Uwa Idada, who posted seven points along with 22 rebounds and five assists, and Hanelie Cadet, who went 7-for-14 to rack up 17 points and three steals. That was a full 50% of Avon's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's put up more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Aniyah Pierre-Louis, who scored no points and ten boards.

Even though they lost, Avon smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Norfolk County Agricultural came tearing into Tuesday's game with eight straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.9 points) and they left with even more momentum. They came within a single point of losing the streak, but they secured a 41-40 W against the Bulldogs.

Norfolk County Agricultural's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-1. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.5 points over those games. As for Avon, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-16.

Avon took a serious blow against Norfolk County Agricultural in their previous matchup back in January, falling 51-15. That contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Avon was down 37-7.
