Volleyball Recap: Highland Falls Despite Big Games from Alivia Ekanem and Sam Zurlis

Highland was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They lost 3-0 to the Illiana Christian Vikings. If the Trojans were looking for revenge after losing 3-0 to the Vikings when the teams met back in October of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

The final score came out to 25-8, 25-12, 25-9.

Despite the loss, Highland had strong showings from Sam Zurlis, who had 11 digs, and Alivia Ekanem, who had six assists and four digs. Jasmyne Myers also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.

Ava Bercot was nothing short of spectacular for Illiana Christian: she had 19 digs and seven assists. That's the most assists Bercot has posted over her last eight matchups.

Highland's defeat dropped their record down to 6-20. As for Illiana Christian, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 23-6.

Highland didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 3-0 loss against Andrean on the 7th. As for Illiana Christian, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 2-1 victory against Bishop McNamara on the 8th.
