Baseball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Maranatha Christian

Maranatha Christian extended their winning streak to three on Friday, bumping them up to 14-11. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Bishop's Knights an 8-0 shutout. That's the third time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent victory being a 4-3 win on Thursday.

Bishop's batters probably weren't too happy with James Pace, who pitched a no hitter and racked up 11 Ks (he gave up two walks). Pace also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Maranatha Christian is 6-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 8-10 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Maranatha Christian let Caleb Kennedy and Holton Heinrichs run wild. Kennedy went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run, while Heinrichs went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI. Those two stolen bases gave Kennedy a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Andrew Browne, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

As for Bishop's, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-14 record this season. The matchup marked the first time this year in which they were not able to get on the board.

On Bishop's side, they got a good showing from Henley Willingham, who tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Willingham has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single hit in four consecutive appearances.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Maranatha Christian will take on Classical Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Bishop's, they will challenge Point Loma at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
