Basketball Game Preview: South Atlanta Hornets vs. Laney Wildcats

The South Atlanta Hornets will venture away from home to square off against the Laney Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

South Atlanta is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They enjoyed a cozy 66-47 victory over Kendrick. Given the Hornets' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 93rd, while the Cherokees are ranked 350th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Laney strolled past Sonoraville with points to spare on Wednesday, taking the game 68-54.

Laney has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.8 points over those games. South Atlanta's win bumped their record up to 20-8.

South Atlanta lost to Laney on the road by a decisive 70-55 margin in their previous matchup back in February of 2018. Can South Atlanta avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
