Softball Recap: Metcalfe County Wins Going Away Against Fort Knox

Metcalfe County barely beat Fort Knox the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Hornets were the clear victors by a 10-1 margin over the Eagles on Friday. That looming 10-1 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Hornets yet this season.

Harper Hurt made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out ten over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, earning one RBI, one run, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Riley Froedge was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Kyndal DeWeese also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Metcalfe County moved to 6-11 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Fort Knox, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-20.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Metcalfe County will face off against Caverna at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Considering the Hornets have lost five straight at home and the Colonels three straight on the road, this one might come down to who's more desperate to change their momentum. As for Fort Knox, they will challenge Central at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Yellow Jackets will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Eagles surely won't give up without a fight.
