Football Recap: Gray Collegiate Academy Picks Up Eighth Consecutive Victory

With a playoff win on the line, Gray Collegiate Academy rose to the challenge on Friday. They blew past the Brookland-Cayce Bearcats, posting a 63-7 win. The War Eagles' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Trevon Williamson produced another solid performance rushing for 222 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 10.1 yards per carry. Those four rushing touchdowns gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Nate Dixon, who rushed for 51 yards and three scores.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Gray Collegiate Academy was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 358 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Gray Collegiate Academy didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Royce Williamson and Tye Rivers. Rivers is also crushing it when it comes to total tackles: he's made at least seven every time he's taken the field this season. Gray Collegiate Academy got some further help from Michael Boulware: he made 20 total tackles (1.0 for loss).

The victory (which was Gray Collegiate Academy's eighth in a row) raised their record to 9-2. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to yards per carry: they averaged an imposing 7.25 yards per carry in those games compared to only 2.73 in the others. As for Brookland-Cayce, their loss dropped their record down to 3-8.

Looking ahead, Gray Collegiate Academy will take on Hartsville at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 943 yards in their previous games. Brookland-Cayce does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
