Baseball Recap: Licking Heights Takes a Loss

While it was Licking Heights who put the first runs on the board on Wednesday, it was Utica who put up more. The Hornets fell just short of the Redskins by a score of 7-6. The Hornets were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Redskins apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Licking Heights got a good showing from Johnny Morgan, who pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the first time Morgan hasn't allowed a single earned run since back in April of 2024.

On the hitting side, Brady Pennington was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3. Maxim Fink was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

Licking Heights has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 1-7-1 record this season. Utica's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-7.

Licking Heights and Utica could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings. The Hornets will face off against Licking Valley at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank disadvantage (473 vs. 60). Meanwhile, Utica (ranked 429th) will meet Sheridan (ranked 161st) at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
