Baseball Recap: Watertown-Mayer Starts Season with Win on the Road

Watertown-Mayer had to kick off their season on the road on Friday, but they showed no ill effects. They never let the Belle Plaine Tigers get on the board and left with a 3-0 victory. The Royals have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Tigers, too.

The result came thanks to Noah Weinzierl's shutout, as he gave up just two hits and racked up 11 Ks.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jaren Vogt, who scored two runs and stole four bases while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Leuthner, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Watertown-Mayer will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Rockford at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Belle Plaine, they will take on Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
