Baseball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for Corinth Christian Academy

Corinth Christian Academy came tearing into Thursday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against Open Bible Christian as they made off with a 19-4 win. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 16-1 last Tuesday.

Peyton Smith made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has become a key player for Corinth Christian Academy: the team is undefeated when he allows at most two hits, but 2-3 otherwise. Smith was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those four hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Corinth Christian Academy let Alden Hughes and Josiah Griffin run wild. Hughes earned three RBI, one run, and two stolen bases, while Griffin earned one RBI, two runs, and two stolen bases. Hughes is becoming a predictor of Corinth Christian Academy's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is undefeated (and 2-3 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Jace Campbell, who went 1-for-3 with three runs and one RBI.

Corinth Christian Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Corinth Christian Academy's victory bumped their record up to 6-3. As for Open Bible Christian, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-6 record this season.

Coincidentally, Corinth Christian Academy and Open Bible Christian will both be playing First Christian the next time they take the field. Open Bible Christian will head out to face First Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, while Corinth Christian Academy will head out to face them at 4:00 p.m. on the 28th.
