Softball Game Preview: West Craven Eagles vs. Eastern Wayne Warriors

The West Craven Eagles will venture away from home to take on the Eastern Wayne Warriors at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. West Craven is coming into the game on a four-game losing streak.

West Craven lost 13-2 to SouthWest Edgecombe on Tuesday. That's two games in a row now that the Eagles have lost by exactly 11 runs.

West Craven saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Angelina Smith, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run.

Meanwhile, Eastern Wayne suffered their closest loss since March 18th on Tuesday. They fell just short of Washington by a score of 7-5.

Mallory Reed put in work no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 23 over six innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than ten strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.

In other batting news, Lyric Hagens made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with two runs and one triple. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season.

Eastern Wayne now has a losing record of 7-8. As for West Craven, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-11.

West Craven skirted past Eastern Wayne 2-1 in their previous matchup back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
