Baseball Recap: Philipsburg-Osceola's Win on Monday Extends Winning Streak to Seven

Philipsburg-Osceola barely beat Clearfield the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Mountaineers were the clear victors by a 9-3 margin over the Bison on Monday. Considering the Mountaineers have won six games by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Archer Baughman made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits (and only one walk). Baughman was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lucas Peterson, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Parker Lamb, who scored four runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

The victory keeps Philipsburg-Osceola at an undefeated 7-0. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average this season. As for Clearfield, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-5.

Looking ahead, Philipsburg-Osceola will venture away from home to face off against Penns Valley Area at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Mountaineers are facing the Rams at the right time seeing as the Rams are stuck on a ten-game losing streak. As for Clearfield, they will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Bellwood-Antis at 4:30 p.m. The Bison's pitchers better be ready for this one: the Blue Devils have averaged an impressive 7.1 runs per game this season.
