Recap: Shawnee Heights Thunderbirds vs. Leavenworth PIONEERS
The Shawnee Heights Thunderbirds had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 27.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Leavenworth 47-7 on the road. The result was nothing new for Shawnee Heights, who have now won three contests by 40 points or more so far this season.
Shawnee Heights was led to victory by Ryeki Tuley and Allen Baughman. Tuley threw for 242 yards and three touchdowns while completing 78.3% of his passes, while Baughman rushed for 129 yards and two touchdowns. Jacob Malcom did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 98 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Shawnee Heights' defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB five times. The heavy lifting was done by Alex Dawkins and Jaki Lee who racked up four sacks between them.
Shawnee Heights' victory bumped their record up to 6-2. As for Leavenworth, their defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 3-6.
Shawnee Heights will take on Sumner Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Sumner Academy will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Kansas Rankings (they are ranked 181st, while Shawnee Heights is ranked 43rd). As for Leavenworth, they will head out on the road to face off against Spring Hill at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
