Baseball Recap: Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond Find Success

Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond came out on top against Villa Grove on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run seventh inning. The Knights took their game against the Blue Devils 7-3. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Knights also won the last time the pair played back in May of 2024.

Maxton Boddy made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over seven innings pitched. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 5-6 otherwise. Boddy was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Those four hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, John Williams was excellent, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Marcus Otto, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.

Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive matchups.

The victory got Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond back to even at 7-7. As for Villa Grove, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-8 record this season.

Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond will head out to challenge Casey-Westfield at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Villa Grove, they will host Cumberland at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
