Softball Recap: Wesson Gets the Win

Wesson had lost three straight, but after bumping their record up to 5-12 on Tuesday that streak is in the rearview. They had just enough and edged out the Enterprise Yellowjackets 11-9. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Cobras considering their one-run performance the game before.

The team relied heavily on Madi Brooks, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one triple. That's the most hits she has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Ady Rose Dowd, who went 1-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Wesson kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive matchups.

As for Enterprise, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last nine contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-14-1 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games.

On Enterprise's side, Maddie Jergins was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she tossed 6.1 innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits.

At the plate, Laney Moree was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Looking ahead, Wesson will take on Amite County at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Trojans have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 20.89 runs per game on average), something the Cobras will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Enterprise, they will square off against Franklin County at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Yellowjackets' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bulldogs have averaged an impressive 6.7 runs per game this season.
