Football Recap: Salem Comes Up Short

The matchup between Salem and Heritage on Tuesday hardly resembled the 20-3 effort from their previous meeting. The Seminoles took a blow against the Patriots, falling 50-20. If the Seminoles were looking for revenge after losing 20-3 to the Patriots when the teams met back in August of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Salem's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ian Morris, who rushed for 63 yards and one score, and also picked up 36 receiving yards. The Seminoles also got help from Kadine McAlister, who showed off his sure hands for 81 receiving yards.

Salem didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Jahkeem Alston. Salem received some extra help from Jeremy Webb, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.

Joshua Taylor continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Heritage, rushing for 209 yards and four TDs on only 15 carries. With that strong performance, Taylor is now averaging an impressive 114.5 rushing yards per game.

The loss snapped Salem's winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 3-3 record. As for Heritage, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-4.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Salem will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on South Atlanta at 7:30 p.m. on the 10th. As for Heritage, they will take on Grayson at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 955 yards in their previous games.
