Baseball Recap: Fairbury Takes a Loss

Fairbury extended their losing streak to six on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 4-17 in the process. They lost 22-1 to the Hastings Tigers. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Jeffs of the 15-2 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

As for Hastings, the win got them back to even at 11-11. The match marked their most dominant victory of the season.

For Hastings' part, Carlos Jimenez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Jimenez has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with five RBI and one double. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Hastings got a big performance out of Ashton Hawes, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs. Hawes is becoming a predictor of the Tigers' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 8-11 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Royer DeLoera, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs.

Coming up, Fairbury is taking a road trip to face off against Adams Central at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hastings does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
