Baseball Recap: Menifee County Comes Up Short

Menifee County had lost four straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 6-22 to make it five. They fell just short of the Jackson City Tigers by a score of 5-4. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Tigers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 17-0 on Monday.

As for Jackson City, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 15-11. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted since May 2nd.

For Jackson City's part, Gavan Ritchie was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Ritchie has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with four stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jacob Morgan, who went 1-for-2 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last seven games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jagger Lovins, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Menifee County will square off against Robertson County at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Jackson City, they will head out to face off against Magoffin County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Hornets have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.46 runs per game on average), something the Tigers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
