Baseball Game Preview: South Portland Red Riots vs. Thornton Academy Trojans

The South Portland Red Riots will venture away from home to take on the Thornton Academy Trojans at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. South Portland will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.

South Portland's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They walked away with a 5-0 win over Kennebunk. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

South Portland got a great performance from Ben Morin as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over 6.2 innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave Morin a new career-high.

At the plate, Easton Healy was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in May. Another player making a difference was Parker Reny, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.

Meanwhile, Thornton Academy faced Biddeford in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. The Trojans put the hurt on the Tigers with a sharp 14-2 victory. Considering the Trojans have won seven matches by more than seven runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

The win made it two in a row for Thornton Academy and bumps their season record up to 12-3-1. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 3 runs in those games. As for South Portland, their record is now 10-4.

South Portland couldn't quite get it done against Thornton Academy in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 as they fell 5-1. Can the Red Riots avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
