Softball Recap: Athens' Victory on Monday Extends Winning Streak to Five

Athens had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Monday. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 3-2 W against the Wellston Golden Rockets. This was a revenge game for the Bulldogs: when they faced off against the Golden Rockets on April 9th, they had to take a 4-0 defeat.

Athens pushed their record up to 13-4 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Wellston, their loss ended a 12-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 13-2.

Coincidentally, Athens and Wellston will both be playing Alexander the next time they take the field. The Golden Rockets will head out to face the Spartans at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while the Bulldogs will head out to face them at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
