Preview: Powdersville Patriots vs. Wren Hurricanes
Powdersville is 2-8 against Wren since December of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. Having just played yesterday, the Powdersville Patriots will get right back to it and host the Wren Hurricanes at 7:30 p.m. on January 16th. Powdersville will be looking to keep their four-game home win streak alive.
On Monday, Powdersville faced Riverside in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Powdersville fell 55-48 to Riverside. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Powdersville has scored all season.
Despite their defeat, Powdersville saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Hayden Assemian, who scored 14 points, was perhaps the best of all. Another player making a difference was Caden Kreger, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds.
Powdersville struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Wren aren't just finding sucess at home, as their game on Friday extended their overall winning streak to three. They put the hurt on Palmetto with a sharp 72-47 win. That looming 72-47 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Wren yet this season.
It was another big night for Abijah Franklin, who scored 21 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. He hasn't dropped below 15points for seven straight games. Brock Cherry was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Powdersville's defeat dropped their record down to 15-4. As for Wren, they have been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season.
Powdersville came up short against Wren when the teams last played back in February of 2023, falling 66-60. Can Powdersville avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
