Baseball Game Preview: Centennial Hawks vs. Alamogordo Tigers

For the second straight game, Centennial will face off against Alamogordo. Centennial will challenge Alamogordo at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Centennial has three straight victories, Alamogordo has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Centennial is returning to their home field after beating Alamogordo on theirs, despite the fact Alamogordo has dominated at home this season. Centennial walked away with a 5-1 win over Alamogordo on Monday.

For Alamogordo's part, Aric Vazquez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits and racked up eight Ks. Vazquez has been consistent : he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

Centennial's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-4. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Alamogordo, their loss dropped their record down to 7-5.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Centennial has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Alamogordo struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.2 strikeouts.
