Basketball Game Preview: Tupelo Tigers vs. Allen Mustangs

Tupelo hasn't had much luck against Allen recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Tupelo Tigers will host the Allen Mustangs at 6:30 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Tupelo is headed into Friday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Thursday. They were beaten by Stratford 63-22. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Oklahoma basketball rankings (they are ranked 423rd, while the Bulldogs are ranked 83rd).

Meanwhile, Allen unfortunately witnessed the end of their eight-game winning streak on Saturday. They came up short against Hartshorne, falling 65-42. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Mustangs have suffered since December 26, 2024.

Tupelo will need focus on slowing down Cherish Woodward, one of several Allen players who made an impact when they last played. She posted eight points and five boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Dextry Bowerman, who earned five points and five rebounds.

Allen's defeat dropped their record down to 16-4. As for Tupelo, their loss dropped their record down to 3-16.

Tupelo was taken down by Allen 70-23 when the teams last played back in January of 2024. That matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point Tupelo was down 43-9.
