Basketball Recap: Spearfish Takes a Loss

Spearfish lost against Brandon Valley back in March of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Spearfish Spartans took a hard 76-61 fall against the Brandon Valley Lynx. While losing is never fun, the Spartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Dakota basketball rankings (they are ranked 38th, while the Lynx are ranked fifth).

Leading Brandon Valley to victory were Alyvia Padgett and Gracie Salter. Padgett went 9 for 19 on her way to 26 points in addition to six assists and three steals, while Salter went 10 of 12 en route to 21 points and eight boards. The dominant performance gave Salter a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Kellenberger, who went 5 for 8 on her way to 12 points.

Spearfish's loss dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Brandon Valley, their victory was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-1.

Spearfish wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 46-27 win against Harrisburg on the 18th. Brandon Valley has also already played their next game, a 70-21 victory against Douglas on the 18th.
