Baseball Game Preview: Fayetteville Tigers vs. Huntland Hornets

Fayetteville is 1-9 against Huntland since April of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Tigers will square off against the Hornets at 6:00 p.m.

Fayetteville lost 19-13 to Moore County on Thursday.

Austin Quick made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 5-for-5 with one home run and one double.

Meanwhile, Huntland challenged Grundy County in a bug-themed battle on Saturday. The Hornets came out on top against the Yellowjackets by a score of 9-5. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Hornets.

Caleb Maxwell spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on four hits.

At the plate, Matthew Dickson was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-2. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jed Ashley, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2.

Huntland was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Fayetteville's defeat dropped their record down to 7-3. As for Huntland, their record now sits at 3-8.

Fayetteville came up short against Huntland in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, falling 8-5. Can the Tigers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
