Baseball Game Preview: KIPP King Lions vs. Skyline Titans

KIPP King is 1-9 against Skyline since April of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Lions will square off against the Titans at 4:00 p.m. KIPP King will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.

KIPP King is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They walked away with an 11-7 victory over Fremont.

Andy Parga made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 2.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. Parga was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. He has been hot, having posted two or more stolen bases the last six times he's played.

In other batting news, Xavier Gardley was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Marco Corona, who went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

KIPP King always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .541. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .541 or higher in five consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Skyline). Their pitchers stepped up to hand Leadership Public Schools Richmond a 24-0 shutout on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Titans, who have now won eight matches by seven runs or more so far this season.

Skyline moved to 10-12 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for KIPP King, they pushed their record up to 11-4 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home.

KIPP King might still be hurting after the 11-2 loss they got from Skyline when the teams last played back in April of 2019. Can the Lions avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
