Softball Recap: Marina Comes Up Short

After flying high against Corona del Mar last Thursday, Marina came back down to earth. The Vikings fell just short of the Huntington Beach Oilers by a score of 3-2 on Tuesday. The Vikings have struggled against the Oilers recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost meeting.

Mia Valbuena put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one run and one double.

Valbuena wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Halle Piramo, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

Marina's defeat dropped their record down to 12-12. As for Huntington Beach, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-7 record this season.

Marina wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 6-4 loss against Los Alamitos on the 1st. As for Huntington Beach, they have also already played their next match, a 12-2 victory against Newport Harbor on the 1st.
