Basketball Recap: Valley Pirates vs. Hopi Bruins
There's no place like home for the Valley Pirates, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Monday. They took down Hopi 53-36 on Wednesday. Given Valley's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 100th, while the Bruins are ranked 207th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Kaelynn Nez continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, almost dropping a double-double on 16 points and nine rebounds. It was the first time this season that she pulled down eight or more rebounds. Another player making a difference was Trinity Mitchell, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine rebounds.
Valley's victory bumped their record up to 14-9. As for Hopi, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-16.
Valley will head out on the road to face off against the Elks at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Round Valley's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last five matches. Hopi does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
